Yeisk Spit

A sand-shell spit about 3 km long, which cuts into the Sea of ​​\u200b\u200bAzov, is part of the Yeysk Peninsula. Until 1914, its length was 9 km, but a strong hurricane eroded the soil and separated most of the land, which turned into an independent island (it is called the "Island of the Seven Winds" or "Green Island"). Bay of the Sea of ​​Azov with an area of ​​more than 240 km². It is considered the largest estuary in the North Caucasus. The architecture of the Yeysk Gostiny Dvor is quite atypical for such structures. The complex was erected in the middle of the 19th century according to the master plan approved by M. S. Vorontsov. The architect I. Zhukovsky worked on the project. Today, as before, shopping arcades are located in Gostiny Dvor. I. M. Poddubny is a wrestler, athlete and circus artist. Since 1927, he lived on the territory of Yeysk, and died here in 1949. A memorial museum named after him opened in his former home in 1971. The exposition tells about the life of an athlete and reveals little-known pages of his biography. Poddubny's personal belongings, handed over by relatives, posters announcing performances, sports equipment and other exhibits are exhibited here. The museum exposition occupies part of the building erected in 1913. It was founded in 1920 and by 1941 already contained several thousand copies relating to the history of the Azov region. During the Second World War, almost the entire collection, except for a few items, was destroyed, but gradually the management and employees managed to collect a new one. Today, the museum holds more than 55 thousand copies.

Dolphinarium or as it is also called "Theater of Marine Animals" is located on the Taganrog embankment. In addition to the dolphins themselves, fur seals, a sea lion and a Far Eastern beluga whale delight visitors at the performances. The institution works in the summer season, when there are tourists in the city (May - September). The auditorium of the dolphinarium can accommodate up to 500 people. Previously, Mikhailovskaya Square was located in its place, on which, according to local historians, a ceremony dedicated to the founding of Yeysk took place. In 2007, the park was reconstructed: flower beds were laid out, new alleys were laid and paths were paved.
